Tenuta San Guido is a famous and historical estate on the coast of Tuscany just south of Leghorn. This estate has belonged to the Incisa family for a relatively short time but in this time they have changed it to the most lauded vineyard in Italy.

The Incisa family were previously famous for their magnificent racehorses which included the unequalled Ribot in the 1950s, even today there is a very fine stable and stud on the estate.

The present Marquis had the courage in the 1980s to break away from the Tuscany traditions of winemaking and make the first of what is now widely known as the ‘Super Tuscany’ wines, he named this wine Sassicaia (after the stony ground of its famous vineyard), it has won numerous prizes all over the world including the prestigious ‘Civilta del Bere’ best wine of the twentieth century in April 2000.

The estate rises from the sea behind the castle of Castiglioncello to a height of 390 meters above sea level. This attitude makes for a very striking landscape, as well as a fabulous microclimate.

It is probably this microclimate and the care and ability of the seventy employees of this great estate that gives this oil its unique qualities. It is made from Frantoio, Reggiola and Moraiolo olives picked by hand in November and early December.

The oil has an unusual aroma of olives, apples and spice with just a hint of liquorice. It tastes grassy– fresh and nutty with a touch of sorrel bitterness and lingering pepper. The Marquis chose a seal from the Roman Empire to be the symbol of his outstanding wine and this also embellishes the label of this outstanding olive oil.
